CALLING ALL THOUGHT LEADERS:

APPLY TO BECOME
A 2023 AMPLIFY FELLOW!

2023 AMPLIFY FELLOWSHIP

The Pacific Council on International Policy launched the AMPLIFY Fellowship in February 2022 as a 16-week professional leadership program geared toward early to mid-career professionals who have traditionally been underrepresented in foreign affairs. The AMPLIFY program includes a robust speaker series, facilitated workshops, 1-on-1 advising sessions, and networking opportunities. Each AMPLIFY Fellow will join the program with their own local-to-global project — a project that affects the local communities by doing globally-oriented work —which they will implement in their own communities across the United States after the program concludes.

The Pacific Council strives to achieve the following through the AMPLIFY program:

  1. strengthen diversity in foreign policy;

  2. advance an inclusive vision of global policy that highlights diverse voices;

  3. develop a cohort of emerging thought leaders who are pursuing innovative and impact-focused endeavors in their local communities and on the world stage.

Interested and qualified individuals are asked to submit an application.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION INCLUDE

  • Individuals who can clearly address the problem they wish to solve through a local-to-global project concept that will be refined during their time in the AMPLIFY program. This may be a project one is working on professionally or through pro-bono commitments. We encourage applicants to be clear in how they are drawing local-to-global connections in their applications.

  • Individuals should be under the age of 40 at the time of application.

  • Priority will be given to individuals who live or work in the Los Angeles area, a region often excluded from the U.S. foreign policy conversation

Current Pacific Council members are invited to apply and share the opportunity among their networks.

COMMITMENT

The 2023 AMPLIFY Fellowship experience will be a combination of virtual programming via Zoom, and mandatory in-person events that will take place in the Los Angeles area. Selected participants will be expected to attend all the sessions (virtual and in-person), and commit about 1-3 hours per week as the program progresses.

FAQS

How do I know if my project idea counts as local-to-global

Your project idea should demonstrate how it would make connections between your local community and the rest of the world. Examples include a project that supports immigrants or refugee resettlement; implementing the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals in your town; or connecting small local business owners to international trade opportunities. If you have further questions about the local-to-global concept please view our description here

Do you have a list of past local-to-global AMPLIFY projects?

You can view each of the 2022 AMPLIFY Fellows’ local-to-global projects by clicking their names as follows:

Dr. Tadios Belay, Kyla Denwood, Lila Green, Cassie Hermiston-Boyd, Janine N’jie David, Radin Rahimzadeh, Dr. Sonya Sharififard, and Sarah Sieloff.

Is there a cost to participate in the program?

There is no financial cost to Fellows to participate in the program curriculum. However, each Fellow will be responsible for any expenses related to attending in-person AMPLIFY events in Los Angeles.

Do I need to have a fully-formed project proposal in order to apply?

No. However, applicants should have an idea of the problem/issue they would like their project to address; the AMPLIFY program is designed to help fellows fully form their project proposal throughout the course of the program.

If I am a current Pacific Council member can I apply for Amplify?

Yes. The AMPLIFY experience will be very different from one’s experience in membership, with added benefits, including access to the AMPLIFY curriculum, 1-on-1 advisor meetings, social activities with other AMPLIFY Fellows, and the formation of your project proposal. If a current member is selected, their membership dues for the year will be waived.

Do I need to live in Los Angeles in order to apply?

No, but there will be 4 mandatory in-person sessions located in the Los Angeles area. While financial assistance will not be provided to support travel to and from the sessions, parking will be provided at each in-person session.

Do I need to be a U.S. citizen in order to apply?

No, but your project proposal should reflect local-to-global work happening in the western United States. If selected, virtual meetings will take place in the Pacific time zone, and previously stated, in-person events will be held in Los Angeles.

Do I need a Google email account in order to apply?

No. If you do not have a Google email account to sign up through the provided link, please contact Jasmine Regala, Associate Director of Programs at jregala@pacificcouncil.org, and special accommodations to apply will be provided for you.
